DescriptionCOVID-19, a contagious disease first identified in China in late 2019, quickly spread worldwide. In early 2020, the New Zealand government implemented measures to contain the virus, including a four-level COVID-19 Alert System.
On 25 March 2020, at 11:59 pm, Aotearoa New Zealand entered Alert Level 4, the highest alert level. The entire country went into lockdown, with people required to stay at home in their household "bubbles." Essential services like supermarkets, healthcare, emergency services, and farms remained operational, while schools, libraries, restaurants, hair salons, and most other businesses closed. People were instructed not to mix with others outside their bubbles except for essential visits or outdoor exercise.
