Church of the Sacred Heart Tākaka

Description

DescriptionThe Catholic Church was consecrated on 15th September 1918 by Archbishop Thomas O'Shea assisted by Frs. Tymons and Kimbell.

Built of Tākaka Valley marble from the quarry on the land owned by Eric and Lucy Sparrow in Uruwhenua. Possibly they donated the marble for the church, although there are conflicting reports.
