Cruise of the yacht Maritana 1894

Description

DescriptionPrivately published pamphlet entitled 'Cruise of the yacht Maritana' Published in Wellington in 1894, the pamphlet recounts a voyage on the yacht around the Marlborough Sounds and Nelson in February 1894, starting in Wellington with the loss of a case of laager beer overboard.

The captain was G. Mee, with G. Martin as sailing master, crew being M Laing, E. Hall, J. Gannaway, A. Mee, and S. Sourcinilli (pilot for Nelson waters), better known as 'Sandie'.

The pamphlet mentions Jack Guard and Mrs Guard, and their children. It mentions the recent wreck of the barque Gazelle off Waikawa Bay, and the death of the crew. Police being sent from Nelson and the identification of the bodies by a survivor, etc.

It also mentions 'The Iris', and Motuareronui / Adele Island.
