DescriptionAn extract from the oral history recordings with Muir McGlashen for the Richmond Oral History Project in 1984. In this extract Muir recalls his experiences of the 1929 Murchison Earthquake. He was at Richmond School at the time.

Muir McGlashen was a pupil at Richmond School during the 1929 Murchison Earthquake. In this recording he recalls his experience of the earthquake and the evacuation of the classroom, including the on-going afterquakes, and the damage they caused. He mentions the rebuilding work, and the migration of men to the area to work on repairs.

Muir talks about the torrential rain in Richmond a few days after the quake, that caused extensive flooding. He also mentions other flooding events in Richmond over the years including during his time on the Richmond Borough Council (1960s -1970s).

At the end of the recording, he briefly talks about his early working life in Richmond in the 1930s, some of the crops grown, such as wheat, and the Hart family's use of horses for farming.
